About
Fritz & Franz Bierhaus brings
Bavarian-style fun back to Ft. Lauderdale.
“It’s not your ordinary Oompah place!”
Fritz and Franz Bierhaus, a new restaurant and sports bar at 60 Merrick Way in Coral Gables, is well-known restaurateur Harald Neuweg’s latest contribution to the city’s dining and nightlife scene. The Bavarian themed Bierhaus (beer house) is on the same spot where Satchmo’s Blues Bar and Grill welcomed enormous happy-hour, late night, and brunch crowds under Neuweg’s energetic ownership. Now traditional beer steins, south German and Austrian artifacts, and vintage tubas give a hearty Oompah atmosphere that promises pure fun.
Returning to his German/Austrian roots, Neuweg has transformed the restaurant and bar into a wood-paneled Bierstube, with a wide variety of Austrian and German brews, plus popular American beers. The shaded plaza-beer garden seats up to 500 during festivals, and the indoor area accommodates up to 150. The sports-bar emphasis and moderately-priced but robust menu is designed with jocks and college students in mind.
Harald, the mastermind behind the menu and the kitchen, is offering authentic Austrian/German food that includes Schnitzel, Sausages, Shanks, Gulasch, Forelle Muellerin, Sauerbraten and large variety of salads. The menu remains unchanged for lunch, dinner and late-night service, with most items available in both tapas-sized and regular portions. “We kept the Satchmo Burger that was such a big hit,” said Neuweg, “but we have renamed it the Bierhaus Burger.” New is an added Sandwich Menu for Lunch. Schnitzel sandwich, Bratwurst sandwich are some of the favorites.
Fritz and Franz Bierhaus is one of the few local establishments where patrons can smoke and imbibe at the same time, thanks to an ample covered area bordering the plaza. Bierhaus patrons will find plenty of parking in the City garage (entrance on Aragon Ave.) The location is ideal for special events, and Neuweg has lined up several to follow; day’s of Oktoberfest. Super Bowl Sunday Party, a three-day Bluesfest, Taste of the Gables, Paella Fest, Gables Gallery Nights, and political and charity fundraising events.
and Franz Bierhaus has been recognized as the # 1 Place to watch Soccer in South Florida with enormous crowds during the World-cup 2009. The Bierhaus is the home for Live Bundesliga (every Friday 2.30pm, Saturday 9.30am and 5pm and Sunday 11am), Premiership and all Live Euro Soccer Events.
